Nebraska.code() 2026: Navigating Uncertainty in Software Development: Effective Planning Techniques

Jodi Jones
Uncertainty is a constant in software development, yet traditional heavy planning practices promise confidence and certainty while failing to deliver. This session explores practical techniques to help teams navigate uncertainty at multiple levels – from understanding the nature of the problem using models like the Cynefin Framework and Rumsfeld’s Known and Unknowns, to communicating plans and progress with clarity even when the path forward isn’t fully clear. Through real-world examples, attendees will leave with a fresh perspective on planning and the tools necessary to lead their teams through ambiguity toward successful outcomes.
This talk will be given at Nebraska.code() by Principal Product Manager, Jodi Jones, of Lean TECHniques. To learn more click here.
