Central Iowa Java User Group: Application Visibility and Monitoring with OpenTelemetry

Josh Angolano
OpenTelemetry is an open-source standard for collecting metrics, logs, and traces, giving you real-time visibility into your applications without vendor lock-in.
Joshua Angolano will walk through core observability concepts such as logs, traces, and metrics. He will take a deep dive into the OpenTelemetry Collector, exploring how pipelines work and how data flows through the system.
During this session Josh will demo a JVM-based application deployed to AWS that produces metrics, logs, and traces. He will show how this data is ingested into an OpenTelemetry Collector and visualized in a Grafana dashboard.
By the end of the session you will better understand the fundamentals of OpenTelemetry, and be ready to integrate it into your own applications to gain powerful visibility and monitoring without being tied to a single vendor.
This talk will be given by Lean TECHniques Principal Engineer, Josh Angolano, at the CIJUG monthly meet-up hosted at Lean TECHniques (9131 Northpark Drive, Johnston, Iowa 50131).
