AWS Summit 2026: Beyond the Blindspot: Mastering App Visibility with Open Telemetry

Josh Angolano
Gaining real-time visibility into applications is increasingly complex when different tools and vendors create fragmented, siloed observability data. OpenTelemetry is an open-source standard for collecting metrics, logs, and traces from a variety of disparate technologies and routing that data to the tool of your choice — eliminating vendor lock-in for application visibility. This session reviews the foundational concepts of logs, traces, and metrics, then takes a deep dive into the OpenTelemetry collector and how its internal pipelines function. Using real examples, it covers setting up both .NET and JVM-based applications to produce observability data, deploying them to Azure and AWS respectively, ingesting that data into an OpenTelemetry collector, and visualizing the results in a Grafana dashboard.
